This show offered ample evidence of Bowling’s trailblazing painterly intelligence; and the accompanying catalogue -a handsome artefact in its own right- carries a selection of his acute and passionate writings on his challenging art, and on its relationship to the complex and compelling issues of the African and West Indian diaspora.
A long-overdue Bowling retrospective will be coming to Tate Britain next May: Instantloveland looks forward to seeing this great British painter finally getting the treatment he deserves.
