Robyn Denny at New Art Centre, Salisbury

November 14, 2018

Cool, clean, hard-edged…and that’s just the t-shirt. Robyn Denny at the 1966 Venice Biennale

Instantloveland apologises for sounding like a stuck record, but it can’t have escaped anyone’s notice that the painting culture seems to be in thrall to all things geometric in abstraction at the moment. The New Art Centre at Roche Court, just outside Salisbury, brings us a powerful blast from the hard-edged past with what looks like a major outing of paintings from the 1960s by the enigmatic master of ‘cool’ abstraction, Robyn Denny (1930-2014).

Underrated? Misrepresented? Or just too cool for school? As always, Instantloveland would love to hear your thoughts on this highly influential British artist.

Exhibition runs until 13th January 2019.
